Hockey
Hockey, which was introduced to Kingswood in 1938 by one of the school’s former vice principals Mr. V.D. Paul Raj had now undoubtedly become the school’s sporting power. The Kingswood team has also managed to emerge as one of the most challenging and outstanding hockey teams islandwide. We have produced a large number of Hockey players of the calibre of Freddie White, once the captain of the national team, who was also regarded as the best Asian goal keeper during the 1950s. Our under 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 teams have taken part in several tournaments and have remarkably placed champions and first runners up in this game at various levels ranging from District to All island throughout the history. It is noteworthy that hockey is the most famous sport among hostelers ever since. In addition, the “Lenny De Silva memorial trophy”, annually played by the hockey teams of Kingswood and Royal college is part of our tradititional hockey culture. The year 1998 is reminiscent of the first international participation of the college hockey team. The former president of the Sri Lankaschools hockey federation, Mr. Roy De Silva being a past pupil of our college hockey team proves thequality of the sport that Kingswoodians are blessed to gain. The untiring efforts of our skillfull coaches, the great assistance of Kingswood old boysand eminent players have largely contributed to the success story of Kingswood hockey.
