Collegiate Section
Science Section
The science section of Kingswood College was previously run by the former sectional head Mr. S. M. K. Samarakoon. After his departure Mr. M. A. P. S. Bandara was appointed as the sectional head to carry out the tasks of the science section. The section itself is divided into three sub sections as Physical science, Bio science and Technology. A total number of 487 students with grade 12 and 13 classes actively engage in studies. The section is also assisted by an academic staff of 22 teachers.
As for their accomplishments, in 2019 gentlemen M. M. H. N. B. Marasinghe, D. M. D. D. Dissanayake and M. G. S. U. Mahanama of the physical science stream respectively obtained the 1st, 6th and 7th district ranks and the 36th, 70th and 74th island ranks.
Commerce Section
The present sectional head of the commerce section is Mrs. D S Gamage who is assisted by 8 teachers and 222 students. There are four Sinhala medium clasees and two English medium classes. Every year commerce section helps to maintain Mother Kingswood at top by producing good results with higher district ranks at the G. C. E A/L in both Sinhala and English mediums.
Apart from the academic sphere there are many significant achievements made by the commerce stream.
In 2017, the students won final runners up (Kandy region) in Business Plan competition organized by CA. In 2018 they won the second runner up and in 2019 it was marked as first runners up in Kandy region in the Business Paln competition organized by CA. Further won the first and second places in soft skills by SLIIT in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Kandy region and participated at the all island contest.
Our students won the first place at the Central province quiz contest organized by the share market of SriLanka. Strengthening this legacy, in 2025, the Commerce Section proudly emerged as the Overall Champions at two major inter-school events: ALCANZA ’25 hosted by Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy, and EMINENZA ’25 hosted by Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy. Additionally, the KCS won the overall champions title at the Quiz and Essay Competitions of ZENITH ’25 – the Commerce Day of Hemamali Girls College, Kandy.
Other than teaching in the classroom, most of the teachers in the section are playing a dual role as a subject teacher and master/teacher in charge of sports and other societies. That is the strength of the section which drives all the students to a competitive world.
Arts Section
The Arts section of Kingswood College Kandy comprises of nearly 180 gentlemen. The gentlemen of the Arts section have the choice of selecting a variety of subjects including within its range about 15 subjects. The Annual Arts Day is inaugurated by the Arts section which helps to showcase their talents in various fields and capacities. But unfortunately those opportunities have been missed by our gentlemen due to the pandemic situation.
We are pleased to state that the Art section’s Annual magazine named “Neth” has been revived after a few years of inactivation.
It is also very important to highlight that more than 15 gentlemen of the Arts Section who have obtained excellent results at the G. C. E Advanced Level examination 2020 have been selected for higher education.
The gentlemen who are gifted in dancing, singing, painting as well as theatrical arts have a very talented personality that will guide them to carry out the name of Mother Kingswood throughout the world.
It should also be noted that the Language section also makes a lot of effort to uplift their standards in their respective subjects. The Arts section achieved all island level ranks in public competitions and also in conducting the “Vhaag Prathibha” Debate competitions.
As a section we unitedly join hands to make our Alma mater forge ahead with immense strength.
