Kingswood College, Kandy, established in 1891, stands as a pillar of Sri Lankan education. Founded by Louis Edmund Blaze with a mere eleven students, it began on Pavilion Street as a boys’ high school. The fledgling institution faced initial challenges, relying on Blaze’s determination and fees to stay afloat. However, it persevered and earned government grants upon establishing a strong foundation. Kingswood’s growth has been remarkable. It relocated to the sprawling Randles Hill in 1923, transforming into a premier institute with over 3,500 students and 300 teachers today. The college offers a comprehensive curriculum, nurturing excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities. Kingswood boasts a rich academic tradition. It was one of the first schools in Sri Lanka to introduce history textbooks authored by its founding principal, Blaze himself.  The college consistently produces high achievers in national examinations, and its alumni have made significant contributions to various fields in Sri Lanka and beyond. Beyond academics, Kingswood is renowned for its vibrant sporting culture. It holds the distinction of being the first Sri Lankan school to introduce rugby and rowing, igniting a passion for these sports that continues to this day. The college has a strong presence in various athletic disciplines, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among its students. Adding to its unique character, Kingswood was a pioneer in co-education, becoming one of the first boys’ schools in Sri Lanka to employ a female teacher. This progressive approach reflects the college’s commitment to fostering a well-rounded and inclusive learning environment.
